Living in City of London

Living in the City of London means being at the crossroads of history and modern life. The “Square Mile” is a unique patch of Greater London—small in area but mighty in importance. With fewer than 9,000 residents, the City is better known for the tidal wave of workers who flood in each day. You’ll find medieval alleyways next to towering glass offices. Among the landmarks are St Paul’s Cathedral, the Bank of England, and the Barbican complex. Museums, theatres, cafés, and green spaces are tucked into every corner, offering chances to relax or explore without straying far. Transport is excellent. Buses, Tube lines, and rail connections link you seamlessly to the rest of London. Most essential services—shops, medical centres, and community hubs—are within easy reach. For older adults or people with disabilities, this proximity means less travel and more time at home.

We recommend joining the welcoming community events hosted by Age UK City of London, which are perfect for older adults looking to stay active and connected. Regular activities include friendly Knit and Natter sessions, relaxed art discussion groups, gentle yoga and exercise classes, and the ever-popular Golden Social gatherings. You can also take part in Square Mile Health Walks or drop by the Barbican Library IT sessions for tech support and advice.

Regular Library Activities for Adults

We suggest exploring the wide range of inclusive activities offered at libraries across the City of London — perfect for older adults and those looking to connect with the local community. At Artizan Street Library, residents can enjoy Puzzle Hour every other Wednesday from 10.30 am to 11.30 am, London Life Drawing sessions on Saturdays, and the Metropolitan Chess Club every Thursday from 6 pm to 10 pm. The Barbican Library also hosts a welcoming Games Club every Thursday from 3 pm to 7 pm, as well as a Knitting Club for men on the third Thursday of each month. There’s also an Age UK IT help drop-in every Tuesday from 5.30 pm to 7 pm for anyone needing digital support.

For those near Shoe Lane Library, there are reading groups on the second Thursday and last Tuesday of each month, a Knit and Chat craft group, and the Dragon Café in the City every other Wednesday from 12 pm to 7.30 pm — an inspiring initiative promoting mental health and wellbeing through creative workshops. For more information, contact the relevant library directly: Barbican Library on 020 7638 0569, or Shoe Lane Library via their website or in person.

More reasons to choose Tiggo Care

Our packages are bespoke

At Tiggo Care we understand how precious your loved one is to you and how unique they are. We also appreciate how overwhelming it can be to research and source the most suitable type of care.

We fundamentally believe that there is no ‘one size fits all’ care package and like to work with you and your loved one to understand your specific requirements. We’ll then create a tailored care package and match your relative with their ideal carer.

We're fully regulated

Unlike some other care providers, we are fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission. This means we are regularly inspected, rated and audited and ensures that we are a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led organisation, committed to delivering the best possible care.

We’re also proud members of the Homecare Association, the U.K’s membership body for home care providers, which holds organisations to a high set of standards and requests them to abide by a strict code of practice

Our carers are fully vetted & trained

At Tiggo Care, all our carers undergo a rigorous recruitment and induction process. They are fully vetted and background checked, with all references followed up. Our carers also undertake their training on the best eLearning system currently available within the UK care market, ensuring they are well placed to deliver the best possible service. Specialist training courses such as moving and handling, medications and basic life support are also completed by our carers face to face, as we feel these courses are more effective when delivered in person.

How can live-in care in City of London make a real difference to daily life?

Choosing live-in care in City of London means receiving continuous assistance from a trusted team in the comfort of your own home. This type of support enables clients to maintain independence, routine, and close connections with family and friends, rather than moving into residential care settings. It also ensures that both the client and their loved ones enjoy peace of mind, knowing that high-quality services are always available when needed.

Do you provide dementia care in City of London?

Yes, our dementia care service offers personalised support to help enable people living with dementia to continue enjoying a meaningful daily life. Our carers are trained to understand memory loss, confusion, and behavioural changes while promoting emotional stability and comfort. We work closely with family, healthcare professionals, and the local authority to ensure every care plan meets the highest standards of exceptional care.

Can you offer live-in respite care if a family member or private carer needs a break?

Absolutely. We can provide short-term respite care where one of our carers temporarily moves into the home to offer ongoing assistance and companionship. This service helps both the client and their family rest assured that care continues seamlessly while ensuring the same exceptional care standards found in long-term arrangements.
